Drugs and Violence: High Risk Behavior

As time goes on, more and more people are using drugs in dangerous ways. This rising percentage of people abusing drugs is leading to an increase in violent behaviors connected to them. The present article will summarize and present cases of mass violence caused by drugs, displaying the harm they may cause if not regulated properly. A literature search of JSTOR, AJPH, IJERPH, Journal of Addictive Reviews, Journal of Addiction Research and Therapy, Google Scholar, CDC, CNN, New York Times, Detroit News, and ABC News was conducted from February 16, 2023, to November 03, 2024. In 2016, 56.2 million people died worldwide. There are an estimated 10,000 people who are killed each year in the United States as a direct result of drugs. Worldwide, 70 million people were diagnosed with a drug use disorder. In the global general population, 0.3%-0.6% of people are diagnosed with this disorder. 10%-69% of people in prison are diagnosed as well. From 1995 to 2000, 41% of violent crimes committed against college students and 38% of violent crimes committed against non-students were committed by an offender thought to be on drugs. Drugs have a clear connection to mass violence, and further regulation is needed for the benefit of public health and safety.

The Revolution was [only?] A Man’s Thing: Asturian Women in October 1934

The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of women in Asturias in October 1934, which has hardly any specific studies. Especially women from the mining working class and politicized young women actively participated in support of men; of course, almost always in functions “appropriate to their sex” (nurses, provisioners of the support of the combatants and caregivers of the children). They were victims of repression by Moors and legionnaires and some fell in combat.

Analysis and Control of a Suicide Dynamics Model

Suicide has become a major cause of human death during the last few decades. It is important to understand the dynamics of suicide and identify effective prevention strategies. In this work, bifurcation analysis and multi objective nonlinear model predictive control are performed on a suicide dynamics model. Bifurcation analysis is a powerful mathematical tool used to deal with the nonlinear dynamics of any process. Several factors must be considered, and multiple objectives must be met simultaneously. The MATLAB program MATCONT was used to perform the bifurcation analysis. The MNLMPC calculations were performed using the optimization language PYOMO in conjunction with the state-of-the-art global optimization solvers IPOPT and  BARON. The bifurcation analysis revealed the existence of limit and branch points. The MNLMC converged on the Utopia solution (best possible). The limit and branch points (which cause multiple steady-state solutions from a singular point) are very beneficial because they enable the Multi objective nonlinear model predictive control calculations to converge to the Utopia point (the best possible solution) in the model. It is proved (with computational validation) that the branch points were caused because of the existence of two distinct separable functions in one of the equations in the dynamic model. A theorem was developed to demonstrate this fact for any dynamic model.
